Cities in the Global South are experiencing rapid growth, often outpacing the development of infrastructure, which at some point becomes insufficient to meet the population’s needs. One of the critical challenges arising from this growth is ensuring adequate food supply for urban residents. In this context, urban and peri-urban agriculture play a vital role in providing food security, especially when formal infrastructure systems falter or collapse. This book explores livestock production and marketing in a fast-growing city in Northern Ghana, examining the opportunities and challenges faced by urban livestock keepers. By analyzing these dynamics, the study aims to deepen the understanding of how urban animal husbandry contributes to food provision and to identify pathways for fostering sustainable development within rapidly expanding urban environments.
